The State Department saw no reason for the collapse of the Russian economy due to sanctions

Western sanctions have not destroyed the Russian economy and there are no prerequisites for its collapse, said US State Department sanctions policy coordinator James O'Brien at a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“We don’t see [preconditions for] the collapse of [the Russian economy],” O’Brien said, noting that at the start of hostilities in Ukraine, RUSSIA ’s economy was one of the ten largest economies in the world ( quoted by TASS ).

With such a statement, O'Brien made at a hearing on the approval of his candidacy for the post of Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. The person holding this position oversees issues related, among other things, to relations with Russia. O'Brien was nominated for the post by U.S. President Joe Biden .

On July 20, the US imposed new sanctions against Russia. Of the individuals, the former HEAD of the Accounts Chamber and currently corporate development adviser at Yandex Alexei Kudrin, the general DIRECTOR of the Kalashnikov Group of Companies Vladimir Lepin and the head of ALROSA Pavel Marinychev, officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economics, etc. d.

Also on the US sanctions list were Tinkoff Bank, Unistream Bank, Solidarity Bank, Loco-Bank, St. Petersburg Social Commercial Bank, as well as the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company, the Arsenal Machine-Building Plant and several research institutes.

In March, the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, commenting on sanctions against other Russian banks, said that these restrictions were no longer perceived as a shock event and did not create systemic risks, while she noted that sanctions continue and will continue to affect the dynamics of the banking sector and economy.
