Gazprom Neft prepared in advance for the possible introduction of new sanctions against it, but the decision to include its assets in the American and British restriction lists was made without justification. This was stated to RBC by the press service of Gazprom Neft.
According to the US Treasury Department, Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, as well as more than two dozen of their subsidiaries, have been hit by new sanctions . The UK has also imposed restrictions on them .
“Over the past two years, Gazprom Neft has been consistently preparing for various negative sanctions scenarios,” the press service said.
They recalled that the company has already been under unilateral foreign sanctions since 2022, “therefore, many such restrictions have already been taken into account in operational processes.”
Thus, in March 2022, the EU introduced a blanket ban on transactions for Europeans with companies from the list, which included Gazprom Neft. Then, as part of the sixth sanctions package, the EU introduced an embargo on Russian oil . However, a couple of months later, the EU allowed European operators to carry out transactions with Russian state-owned companies on the transportation of Russian oil to third countries.
The press service of Gazprom Neft emphasized that they consider the decision to include their assets in the sanctions list to be “unfounded, illegitimate and contrary to the principles of free competition.”
At the same time, they assured that its business will remain stable, since technological sovereignty projects help ensure the stable operation of operational processes and production chains.
The new US sanctions list includes Gazprom Neft oil refineries (Moscow, Omsk), production enterprises - Gazpromneft-Noyabrskneftegaz, Gazpromneft-Orenburg and others, its foreign structures - in Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia (NIS), as well as Gazprom Neft International, registered in Luxembourg; GazpromOil Shelf" and "Gazprom Neft Aero", etc.
Restrictions have also been introduced against the structures of Surgutneftegaz - its bank, Kaliningradnefteprodukt, the Kirishinefteorgsintez (Kinef) oil refinery, and others.
