In Helsinki, the land and the building of the Russian Center for Science and Culture were arrested. Helsingin Sanomat indicated that the asset freeze is a temporary measure, during which the authorities must decide

The Finnish authorities seized the land and building of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC), as well as seven apartments in Helsinki, three of which are in close proximity to the RCSC, the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reports, citing the debt collection department.

“According to the decision made by the bailiffs a week ago, a land plot and an office building at Nordenskiöldinkatu 1 (the address of the RCSC) were arrested. According to the certificate of ownership of real estate, the land belongs to the Russian Federation, and earlier to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics,” the report says.

The newspaper specifies that the area of the arrested property is 3326 square meters. m. Also, the debt collection office seized seven apartments in Helsinki, "associated with those who are under EU sanctions."

The Russian (Soviet) Center for Science and Culture in Helsinki was opened in 1977. After the collapse of the union, RUSSIA began to dispose of the property of the center . The main task of the Center is to assist in the implementation of joint Russian-Finnish cultural, educational, humanitarian and scientific projects.

Helsingin Sanomat emphasizes that the freezing of Russian assets is a temporary measure, during which Russia is not allowed to dispose of the property or pledge it. It is valid for three weeks (since April 11), during which Finnish law enforcement agencies must decide whether the site and buildings are controlled by sanctioned persons .

Finland, after the start of the Russian special operation, joined the sanctions, and also joined NATO. In addition to sanctions against the RCSC, the accounts of the Russian House were previously frozen in the country, Finnish Talouselämä wrote. According to the publication, the Debt Collection Authority made a decision on March 10.

Moreover, in early April, a petition appeared on the Finnish website of civil initiatives demanding the closure of the Russian consulate in the Åland Islands. Its authors believe that it is necessary to do this, since Finland joined NATO, and the diplomatic mission "endangers the security" of the country.

After that, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed the hope that Finland would adhere to its obligations on the issue of maintaining the Russian consulate. “We proceed from the fact that the position of Finland, confirmed by the Finnish Foreign Ministry, is that the country intends to continue to fulfill its international legal obligations regarding the demilitarized status of the Åland Islands and the presence of the consulate of the Russian Federation on them,” the Foreign Ministry said.
