Belarus promised adequate measures in response to new Western sanctions

Sanctions against Belarus will not go unanswered. This was announced by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, BelTA informs.

“We warned that sanctions would not go unanswered. Now the relevant service is studying the text of sanctions against our citizens and enterprises. We choose the most appropriate response measures from the set that we have developed,” said Golovchenko.

The day before, the European Union adopted the fourth package of sanctions against Belarus. Eight legal entities and 78 individuals fell under them, mostly Belarusian citizens, but there are also Russians among them, in particular businessman Mikhail Gutseriev.

New sanctions were introduced due to the situation with the forced landing of the Ryanair aircraft and the detention of Nexta founder Roman Protasevich. Now EU sanctions against the country apply to a total of 166 individuals and 15 legal entities. The assets of these individuals are subject to a freeze, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing funds to those on the list. Individuals are additionally also subject to a ban on entry into the EU.

On June 21, the Belarusian sanctions lists were also expanded by the USA , Canada, Great Britain. The United States, in particular, extended sanctions to the Belarusian KGB, internal troops, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, and the detention center at Akrestsina.

EU candidate countries - North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Albania, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway - have joined the ban for Belarusian air carriers on the use of EU airspace and airports.
