The loss of participants in the Russian tourism industry due to the closure of the sky by some countries and various sanctions in the aviation industry can amount to tens of billions of rubles, Maya Lomidze, executive DIRECTOR of the Association of Tour Operators of RUSSIA (ATOR), told RIA Novosti.
“So far, a full calculation of losses has not been made. Nevertheless, it is possible to speak about several tens of billions of rubles of lost profits. And this is only for tour operators and travel agents, not to mention aviation,” she said.
According to Lomidze, these losses should be added to the losses due to mandatory compensation to tourists who bought tours to countries that are now impossible to visit in February-March.
ATOR Vice-President Artur Muradyan said that the tourism sector did not receive 50-60% of the profit in the summer season, in winter the situation will become even more complicated, he warned.
