A Ukrainian court has sentenced 20 State Duma deputies in absentia to 15 years in prison for "encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability" of Ukraine, the country's prosecutor general's office said in a statement.

“During the public prosecution of the prosecutors of the Chernivtsi regional prosecutor's office, 20 deputies of the State Duma were found guilty of encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (part 3 of article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Each of them was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property,” the statement said.

The department noted that the deputies of the State Duma, in respect of which the Ukrainian court issued sentences, in February 2022 supported the appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to consider the issue of recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR, and also voted for the ratification of treaties on friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between RUSSIA and the republics of Donbass.

The DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions became part of Russia on September 30, 2022 following the results of referendums held there.
