Turkey has no plans to impose sanctions against Russia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told CNN Turk.
“We must act with our country's priorities in mind. There must be a party capable of negotiating with Russia. Who will talk to Russia when everyone burns bridges? We do not plan to impose sanctions to open this channel,” he said.
According to him, the Turkish side stands for the cessation of hostilities, supports Ukraine, while not wanting to spoil relations with Russia. Relations between Turkey and Russia have shown that conflicts can be resolved through diplomacy, Kalyn said.
The representative of the Turkish President considered that the Montreux Convention, according to which the ships of the warring countries cannot pass through the straits in the Black Sea, contributed to peace.
