Artur Petrov was detained in Cyprus last year at the request of the United States , which accuses him of violating sanctions. Earlier this year, a COURT in Larnaca refused to extradite the Russian. The new decision, he believes, “defies explanation.”

The Nicosia Court of Appeal has allowed the extradition of Russian citizen Artur Petrov to the United States, TASS reports, citing a correspondent. The man was detained in Cyprus in August 2023 at the request of Washington and accused of violating sanctions.

In January, the Larnaca District Court refused to extradite Petrov. The new decision, he said, was “inexplicable” because the court in January had ruled the extradition illegal.

“My lawyers will study this decision of the Court of Appeal, conduct an examination, after which it will become clear whether to file an appeal to the Supreme Court of Cyprus or not,” Petrov noted.

The American investigation accuses Petrov of, among other things, smuggling, violating EXPORT controls and money laundering.

Court documents stated thatThe Russian (who, according to the US Department of Justice, also holds German citizenship) works for Electrocom, a company that supplies electronic components "for the needs of Russian industrial enterprises." The investigation suggests that the products could be used to supply the Russian military.
