Biden called relations with Russia "completely severed" Politics
“These actions are aimed at persecuting influential Russians who are part of [Vladimir] Putin's inner circle and occupy elite positions in power in Russia. <...> Many of these individuals hold senior positions in companies subject to sanctions,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry explains that Ivanov's son was sanctioned because the US considers his father "Putin's closest ally" and because Ivanov Sr. served as chief of staff, deputy prime minister and defense minister. Ivanov Jr. holds the posts of head of Alrosa and a member of the board of directors of Gazprombank.
