Washington imposed sanctions on Russian citizen Yevgeny Polyanin and Ukrainian citizen Yaroslav Vasinsky, the press service of the US Treasury reported.

Both were included in the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals And Blocked Persons List) sanctions list. Those on this list are frozen assets they own in the United States. And American citizens are prohibited from doing business with those on the list.

The ministry said in a statement that Polyanin and Vasinsky are directly related to the REvil hacker group, also known as Sodinokibi. “These two individuals are part of a cybercrime group that ransomware and received over $200 million in ransom payments in bitcoin and [cryptocurrency] Monero,” the Treasury said.
