
The US Treasury imposed sanctions against Russian Dmitry Kudryakov, a citizen of Belarus and three Guatemalan companies. They came under restrictions in accordance with the “Magnitsky Act” on sanctions against Russians and citizens of other countries involved, according to Washington, in human rights violations.
Together with Kudryakov, a citizen of Belarus, Irina Litvinyuk, fell under the sanctions.
“These individuals and entities are listed pursuant to an executive order that builds on the Magnitsky Act of Global Responsibility for Human Rights and targets those responsible for serious human rights violations and corruption around the world,” the release reads. .
As the US Treasury explained, Kudryakov and Litvinyuk are connected with Guatemalan companies operating in the mining sector, and the sanctions were imposed "for their role in the exploitation of the mining sector of Guatemala." Guatemalan companies included in the list are Compania Guatemalteca de Niquel, Compania Procesadora de Niquel and Mayaniquel. They, according to the US Treasury, are subsidiaries of the Solway group, which the department calls a Russian company.
