The US Treasury Department has placed four Ukrainian politicians on the sanctions list "for Russia's harmful actions abroad," according to the department's website.
Two current deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, members of the Opposition Platform - For Life (OPPL) faction Taras Kozak and Oleg Voloshin, were subject to restrictions.
In addition to them, the list includes former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the Party of Regions Volodymyr Oleinik, as well as former deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (under Viktor Yanukovych) Volodymyr Sivkovich.
The Treasury Department said in a statement that "the United States continues to oppose Russia's attempts to organize a disinformation campaign and destabilize the situation in Ukraine." it is alleged that the above persons contributed to the implementation of Russian policy. “We will continue to do everything to hold RUSSIA accountable for its destabilizing actions,” said Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
Kozak is the founder of the Novini media holding, which includes the opposition TV channels 112 Ukraine, ZiK and NewsOne. In February last year, President Volodymyr Zelensky accused them of propaganda financed by the "aggressor country" and undermining Ukraine's European integration. In December 2021, Kiev imposed sanctions against the holding.
