The US Department of Commerce has added the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) to the sanctions list. This is stated in the message on the website of the department.
The reason for including MIPT in the list was the development of military products for a military customer.
In addition to MIPT, the list also includes companies from CHINA and Pakistan, which the United States considers involved in the modernization of the Chinese People's Army , as well as Pakistan's nuclear program.
“International trade should promote peace, prosperity and well-paying jobs, not security risks. Today's decisions of the Department of Commerce should prevent the transfer of American technologies to China, RUSSIA, and promote the development of Pakistan's unsafe nuclear program," said Gina Raimondo, HEAD of the department.
MIPT Rector Dmitry Livanov told RBC that he was surprised that the university was included in the sanctions list. He noted that among the customers of MIPT research and applied developments are many commercial and government structures in Russia and abroad. Livanov also expressed hope that the sanctions would not hinder cooperation with American universities in the academic field.
