
The United States is suspending a bilateral air service agreement with Belarus and reimposing sanctions against Belarusian state-owned enterprises over the May 23 Ryanair incident, White House spokesman Jen Psaki said in a statement.
Washington has decided to temporarily terminate the December 3, 2019 Air Services Agreement with Belarus, which allows the airlines of the two countries to fly between them on a reciprocal basis. The United States also issued a recommendation to citizens of the fourth, highest level, not to travel to Belarus.
The US will also renew sanctions against nine Belarusian state-owned enterprises that were previously lifted. Americans will not be able to make deals with them or act in their interests, the White House said.
In addition, the United States, in cooperation with the EU and other partners, is developing a list of targeted sanctions against key politicians in Belarus that are related to human rights violations, as well as corruption, fraud in the August elections and the events of May 23, the statement said.
