US Attorney General Merrick Garland said US authorities have filed charges against Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev. He is suspected of trying to circumvent Western sanctions .
According to Garland, Malofeev managed to create a scheme that allowed publications controlled by him to operate in Europe. Also, US authorities intercepted "millions of dollars" that the businessman was supposed to receive from an unnamed financial institution in the United States.
Malofeev is also suspected of having financed Russian citizens who sought the separation of Crimea from Ukraine.

“The US Department of Justice will continue to do everything possible to hold other Russian oligarchs responsible for trying to circumvent sanctions,” Garland said.
