The European Commission intends to expand the sanctions list against RUSSIA, adopted as a reaction to the “annexation” of Crimea, by another five points. Spiegel reports this with reference to a confidential report from the German embassy in Brussels.

According to the report, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania and Denmark demanded appropriate measures against Russia on January 17 at a meeting of a working group of representatives of the EU countries. According to the leadership of these states, this would be “a necessary response from Russia in the light of the ongoing Russification of the annexed territories” in Crimea. In particular, it was proposed to add five more people or organizations from Russia to the list.

The publication clarifies that initially Germany, Italy and Finland insisted on a comprehensive study of the proposed amendments. At the same time, by now, the German Foreign Ministry has completed the analysis and is ready to give its consent, Spiegel added.

A ban was also placed on investments in the infrastructure, transport, telecommunications and energy sectors, in the extraction of oil , gas and minerals.
