Meat producers have approached the government with a proposal to ban Russians from importing meat and dairy products for personal use from abroad.They fear the importation of pathogens of dangerous animal diseases into the country.

The National Meat Association, which includes the largest producers of meat, poultry and products from them Miratorg, Cherkizovo, Remit and Velcom and others, wrote a letter to Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Gordeev with a request to ban Russians from importing meat from abroad. and dairy products for personal use, as well as to strengthen the control of luggage and hand luggage at the border. This is reported by the newspaper "Vedomosti" with reference to a copy of the corresponding letter. Its authenticity was confirmed to the publication by the head of the association, Sergei Yushin.

The authors of the letter point out that the risks of importing pathogens of dangerous animal diseases along with food from abroad are growing. If the imported products are infected, the virus can be spread by contact, as well as through food waste that ends up in landfills, from where it is spread through the air or by wild animals.
