US senators include Putin and 11 banks in the draft of new sanctions

The US Senate has published a draft of a new package of sanctions prepared by the Democrats against Russia's public debt, the banking sector and the country's leadership.

The proposed measures are related to the situation around Ukraine.

Among high-ranking officials, in particular, President Vladimir Putin , Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu may be subject to restrictions. There are 12 positions on the list in total.

Also, the President of the United States is invited in the event of Russia's invasion of Ukraine to impose sanctions against at least three organizations from the following list: Sberbank, VTB, Gazprombank, VEB, RDIF, MKB, Alfa-Bank, Rosselkhozbank, Otkritie, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank, Transcapitalbank.

RBC sent requests to these institutions. Otkritie and RDIF declined to comment.
