Sberbank came under US sanctions

Sberbank will also be included in the American sanctions list, follows from the message of the American White House. However, it is not subject to “full blocking sanctions” (SDN list), which means blocking all assets and accounts of credit institutions in US dollars and de facto isolation from the DOLLAR system. We are talking about "severing ties with the US financial system" for Sberbank and its 25 subsidiaries.

Sberbank has been added to the CAPTA list, which implies restrictions on correspondent accounts in the US. Within 30 days, all American financial institutions must close any correspondent accounts of Sberbank and begin to reject any transactions involving the bank or its subsidiaries. At the same time, Sberbank's assets in US jurisdiction are not frozen, and US institutions are generally not prohibited from doing other business with Sberbank (that is, for example, it is understood that Sberbank can acquire a license for American software).

“This action will limit Sberbank's access to transactions in dollars. Sberbank is the largest bank in RUSSIA, owns almost one-third of all assets of the Russian banking sector, is closely linked to the global financial system and is systemically important for the Russian financial system,” the White House said.

VTB is included in the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) list, which means the maximum possible restrictions - blocking bank assets in US jurisdiction, a ban on dollar transactions, a ban on any transactions with US counterparties. Together with VTB, which US President Joe Biden previously announced restrictions on , this list also includes Otkritie, Novikombank and Sovcombank.
