The Russian delegation's planes in Alaska had to be paid for in cash due to sanctions preventing Russians from using the American banking system. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed this in an interview with NBC News. The video was published on the channel's YouTube account.

"You know, when the Russians landed in Alaska, they were trying to refuel. They had to offer cash payment for refueling their planes because they can't use our banking system," Rubio said.

He noted that Russians have to cope with the consequences of sanctions "every day." However, the current situation doesn't mean sanctions are inappropriate—it means that even the introduction of restrictions has had no impact on the outcome of the military actions in Ukraine , Rubio said.

In mid-July, Trump issued an ultimatum to RUSSIA, declaring that if peace was not reached within 50 days, the US would impose 100% tariffs on Moscow starting September 1. At the end of July, he shortened the deadline to 10-12 days.

The day after his August 15 meeting in Alaska with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Trump said he had no plans to impose sanctions on Russia because the meeting had gone well.

Rubio said on August 17 that if the US imposes new sanctions against Russia, it will mean that the US has failed to resolve the conflict through peaceful negotiations.

The Kremlin said that the "language of ultimatums" was unacceptable to Moscow. "You can't speak to Russia in such language," they emphasized.
