The Russian Embassy in Finland demanded that the country's Foreign Ministry explain the reasons for the arrest of the building of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Helsinki. This was reported to RBC in the diplomatic mission.

In the note, the embassy demanded to explain "how the actions of bailiffs correlate with the norms of international law on the immunity of state property."

On Tuesday, the Finnish authorities seized the land and building of the RCSC, as well as seven apartments in Helsinki, three of which are in close proximity to the RCSC. The area of ​​the arrested property is 3326 square meters. m. Prior to this, the Finnish Debt Collection Authority blocked the bank accounts of the RCSC in the Nordea bank.

"The embassy is in contact with the Finnish authorities on this issue," the Russian diplomatic mission said.

The newspaper Helsingin Sanomat notes that the freezing of Russian assets is a temporary measure. During this period, RUSSIA is prohibited from disposing of property or transferring it as collateral. The Finnish authorities intend to check whether the site and buildings are controlled by sanctioned persons .

After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Finland, along with other EU members, imposed sanctions against Russia. In April, the country joined NATO.

The Russian (Soviet) Center for Science and Culture in Helsinki was opened in 1977. After the collapse of the Union, Russia began to dispose of the property of the center . The main task of the center is to assist in the implementation of joint Russian-Finnish cultural, educational, humanitarian and scientific projects.
