Russian cinemas will maintain pre-crisis prices for movie tickets, as well as for cinema bar products. This was told to Vedomosti by the heads of the five largest cinema networks in the country - the combined cinema network Cinema Park and Formula Kino, Premier Hall, Karo, Kinomax and Cinema Star. Together, these cinema networks, according to the research company Nevafilm Research, as of January 1, 2022, occupied 31.5% of the film distribution market in terms of the number of cinema halls.
An alternative to Hollywood releases will be Russian premieres and movie hits of past years, Soviet and foreign classics, as well as Bollywood blockbusters, South Korean films and films from Latin America and other countries, the leaders of the cinema chains specified.
“We are working with both distributors and rights holders, such as Mosfilm, to develop an alternative offer. There were once queues for Bollywood in cinemas, which indicates interest in this content. The main thing now is to fine-tune marketing,” said Olga Zinyakova, president of the Karo cinema chain.
In turn, Alexei Vasyasin, general DIRECTOR of the united Cinema Park and Formula Kino cinema chain, and Vladimir Petelin, general director of the Premier Hall cinema chain, noted that after the leading Hollywood studios announced the suspension of new releases in RUSSIA, cinemas have no content, which would be highly sought after by the audience.
“The task is to keep it [going to the cinema] affordable and relevant, even despite the sharp increase in the cost of lamps and components for projectors, the cost of which, following the exchange rate, increased by about 80%,” Vasyasin said.
