RSC Energia announced a threat to the security of the ISS due to sanctions and Ukraine

Western sanctions on the supply of components for space technology to Russia and the production of some components on the territory of Ukraine have created difficulties in maintaining the operability of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS). This is stated in an article by employees of the Energia Rocket and Space Corporation (the operator of the Russian segment of the ISS), which was published in the scientific journal Space Technology and Technology.

“Under normal conditions, it is necessary to replace such components without bringing them to failure. However, during the flight of the Russian segment of the ISS, many components were discontinued due to various reasons (one of the main ones is the cessation of production of the element base that existed during the development of the first modules of the Russian segment of the ISS), ”the article says (quote from RIA News").

Energia noted that some devices and units were manufactured at enterprises that ceased to exist or fell under the jurisdiction of other states (Ukraine), or under sanctions that do not allow the use of the required foreign-made components.

The company emphasized that all this led to a shortage of spare parts, significantly complicated the process of repairing equipment in space, and also increased the costs and duration of work on the manufacture of spare parts.
