The United States is trying to enlist the support of its closest allies ahead of possible sanctions against China that would be imposed if Beijing provides military support to Russia, Reuters writes, citing sources in Washington.

“The consultations, which are still in the preliminary stages, are designed to enlist the support of a number of countries, especially the wealthy countries of the G7 (G7), to coordinate any possible restrictions [against China],” the article says.

The interlocutors of Reuters did not disclose what restrictions could be imposed against China, however, they specified that consultations between the United States and allies are taking place along with the search for evidence of Chinese arms supplies to Russia.

Informal contacts are under way, including at the level of finance ministers, the sources said, but "Washington's initial appeal for sanctions has not yet resulted in broad agreement on any specific measures."
