The leaders of the countries met at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This year it takes place in Samarkand from 15 to 16 September. The event will be attended by 15 leaders.
The SCO unites China , Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan; in 2017, India and Pakistan also joined the organization as full members. Iran is not yet a member of the organization. The SCO leaders approved its adoption in September 2021. On September 15, Tehran signed a memorandum on joining the organization.
