Putin urged not to relax due to sanctions imposed against Russia

Putin noted that the economy has been growing since last summer, but positive dynamics are not a reason to “relax”, since anti-Russian sanctions could have a negative impact in the medium term Vladimir Putin

Western sanctions imposed against Russia, despite the current positive dynamics in the economy, may have a negative impact on it in the future, President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with the government. The broadcast was on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

“The illegitimate restrictions introduced against the Russian economy in the medium term can really have a negative impact on it,” Putin said.

He noted that the Russian economy has shown “positive dynamics” since July 2022, as domestic companies fill the niches of departed Western firms and develop ties with the growing economies of the east and south. But “returning to the growth trajectory should not weaken us,” the head of state emphasized.

According to Rosstat’s first estimate, Russia’s real GDP in 2022 decreased by 2.1%, which is less than during the pandemic. Initially, due to the introduction of sanctions, a more serious decline was expected.

According to him, the main factor of economic growth is domestic demand; it is necessary to ensure its further increase, but this dynamics must correspond to the Central Bank’s inflation targets.

Putin also called for removing structural restrictions that affect business activity: bottlenecks in logistics, finance, personnel training, etc. “Act without bureaucracy and delays,” the head of state called on.

The President noted that as part of this work to eliminate bottlenecks, “the next stage of work on the BAM” (Baikal-Amur Mainline) was recently completed. Putin did not specify which event he was referring to. The day before, on March 28, a section of 11.5 km was opened on the highway a year ahead of schedule - the second route of the main route on the Blockpost 9 km section - Kumte (Khabarovsk Territory, not far from Komsomolsk-on-Amur).

Work on the BAM, as well as the Trans-Siberian Railway, is being carried out as part of the development project of the Eastern range to increase the volume of cargo transportation in this direction. This has become especially relevant in connection with the reorientation of Russian supplies from the West against the backdrop of sanctions imposed by the EU , USA and other countries.
