Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Rospotrebnadzor, together with the Prosecutor General's Office, to conduct a series of inspections of meat products in stores, catering, weekend fairs and roadside service facilities. Checks are needed to stop the sale of meat products without documents "confirming its origin, quality and safety." This is stated in the list of instructions following the meeting with the government on July 28, published on the Kremlin website.

The first report on the results of inspections must be submitted before December 1, 2017, then once every six months, the instruction says.

Rosselkhoznadzor has already recorded the facts of the import of meat products into Russia, the origin of which is difficult to confirm. Including we are talking about the import of sanctioned goods. For example, in early February 2017, Russia limited the supply of beef and beef offal from the Minsk region. The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor , Sergei Dankvert, explained to RBC that the manufacturers that fell under the sanctions used Ukrainian raw materials.

In the first half of 2017, Rospotrebnadzor withdrew from the sale of 22.8 tons of meat products that do not meet the requirements, the agency reported at the end of July. In general, the share of unsafe meat products has been declining in recent years, the ministry assures.
