The West understands that sanctions against industries where RUSSIA has technological superiority are meaningless, so it does not impose them, President Vladimir Putin said at an event marking the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN). The transcript was published on the Kremlin website.

“In those scientific and technological areas where we have significant, unique competencies, our foreign “partners” <...> do not even try to impose any sanctions or restrictions against us, they understand that here it is useless and pointless,” - said the president.

For this reason, Russia must be strong, self-sufficient and competitive “in all key vectors of progress,” the HEAD of state believes.

“Self-sufficient - in terms of providing their own key needs, competitive - in order to shape the global development agenda and occupy a strong position in world markets,” he explained.

The country should also strive to move to the next technological milestone and build up its unique competencies in order to create equal international scientific and technological alliances, Putin continued. “And in areas that are critical to us, we must have the full range of technologies and means of production,” he said.

Putin noted that all these principles will be enshrined in the updated Strategy for Scientific and Technological Development of Russia. On February 8, the head of state instructed to prepare a decree approving the document within a week.
