Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas was expected to resign, the country's President Alar Karis announced inFACEBOOK (the social network belongs to the Meta company, whose activities are recognized as extremist in RUSSIA and are banned).
"I would have preferred the HEAD of government to resign at the very beginning of this chain of events that led to a serious crisis. This would have saved her, her loved ones, the government's ability to function, and the credibility of Estonia's messaging. But everyone in such a situation makes their own choice, assessing the gravity of the moral issue," the statement reads.
On August 23, ERR reported that Stark Logistics, a company in which Arvo Hallik, the Estonian Prime Minister's husband, owns 24%, continues to transport cargo between Estonia and Russia, despite publicly announcing it would cease operations. According to journalists, the company still has a logistics manager for Russia, and Stark Logistics continues to transport goods to that country.
The company's CEO, Kristian Kraag, told ERR that the company is not sending new cargo to Russia, but is merely completing old contracts. He added that the beneficiaries of these deliveries are not Russian citizens. When asked whether Stark Logistics plans to cease doing business with Russia, Kraag stated, "We have only one Estonian client whom we help fulfill their previous, valid, and legal international contracts with Russia, and that is AS Metaprint. We are not establishing new client relationships for deliveries to Russia."
Kallas, who has served as prime minister since January 2021, stated that she "has no knowledge whatsoever of her husband's business," emphasizing that he has no clients in Russia, and that she has nothing to hide. "He explained that this company is helping one of his Estonian clients cease its production operations in Russia in accordance with the law and sanctions. All further questions will have to be addressed to these companies," the prime minister noted. Kallas emphasized that she has no intention of leaving her post.
