Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has proposed creating a G20-like format for negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine. The HEAD of state stated this at the end of his visit to the United Arab Emirates, G1 reports.

“When there was an economic crisis in 2008, we quickly created the G20 to try to save the economy. Now it is important to create another G20 to end the war and establish peace,” said Lula da Silva.

At the same time, he noted that "it was easier to start a war than to get out of it," since the decision to start it was made by two countries. What exactly, the Brazilian leader did not specify, but noted that Europe and the United States only contribute to the continuation of hostilities.

The G20 is an informal organization that brings together the largest developed and emerging economies. It includes the EU, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Great Britain, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, CANADA, CHINA, Mexico, RUSSIA, Saudi Arabia, usa, Turkey, France, SOUTH KOREA, South Africa , Japan.

After the start of the military operation, the United States and Ukraine, which is not part of the group, repeatedly made calls to exclude Russia from the G20. Attempts to exclude Russia from the G20 are doomed to failure, said Alexander Grushko, deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Brazil did not join the calls to exclude Russia from the G20 and condemned the sanctions that Western countries have imposed on Moscow. Lula da Silva, after coming to power in October 2022, reaffirmed that the country would not impose sanctions against Russia and supply weapons to Ukraine, despite pressure from the West.

He also repeatedly urged the parties to return to the negotiating table, and in early April he said that “[Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky cannot want everything” and that he may have to give in on the Crimea issue in order to achieve peace.

The Russian side has repeatedly declared its readiness for negotiations, but Moscow noted that Kyiv does not enter into a dialogue and has legally prohibited negotiations with the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
