Prime Minister of Latvia said that the Baltic states have suffered the most from the sanctions

Krisjanis Karins

The Baltic states will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine and push for tougher sanctions against RUSSIA, although they have suffered the most from the restrictions. This was stated by Prime Minister of Latvia Krisjanis Karins after a meeting with colleagues from Estonia and Lithuania, reports LSM.

“Of all the states of Europe, the three Baltic countries suffered economically the most and the earliest from these sanctions, but this did not stop our determination to support Ukraine and demand these sanctions against Russia and Belarus,” he said.

The Baltic States and Poland will offer the EU a new package of sanctions against Russia Politics

The prime ministers of the Baltic states are united in their intention to demand tougher sanctions against Russia and together ask the allies to increase the provision of assistance to Ukraine, Karins stressed.

Politicians of the Baltic countries after the start of the Russian special operation have repeatedly called on the EU to tighten sanctions against Russia. At the end of October, together with representatives of Poland, they prepared a new package of sanctions against Russia, which included a ban on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and restrictions on the import of Russian diamonds, Polskoye Radio and PAP wrote, citing the draft document. In addition, it provided for a ban on the import into Russia of all drones, including those used for civilian purposes. All four countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland) were also in favor of limiting Russian LPG imports.

The Baltic states imposed restrictions on Russia and its citizens at the national level as well. In September, they, like Poland, banned Russians from entering their territory on Schengen visas, including those issued by third countries. In October, Latvia and Estonia notified the FCS of their decision to freeze customs cooperation with Russia.

In addition, on November 5, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, as countries of the Baltic Assembly, adopted a resolution to support Ukraine. The document discussed the need to isolate Russia from Europe.
