CANADA will impose new sanctions against RUSSIA due to referendums in the partially recognized DPR and LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. This was stated by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to a message on his website.

“In response to this further escalation, we intend to introduce new sanctions against individuals and organizations involved in this latest attempt to undermine the principles of state sovereignty,” he stressed.

Trudeau noted that Canada will never recognize the results of "bogus referendums" or an attempt to illegally incorporate Ukrainian territories into Russia.

The politician added that Canada and its international partners will continue to support Ukraine in the struggle for its territorial integrity and sovereignty. “The territory of Ukraine will remain with Ukraine,” Trudeau summed up.

Referendums in the Ukrainian regions, which Russia took control of during the hostilities, were held from 23 to 27 September. On the first four days, residents voted in the adjacent territories and during the targeted bypass, and on the fifth day, the referendum was held at the polling stations.
