Renault left RUSSIA in the spring of 2022. The French automaker transferred its 67.69% stake in AvtoVAZ to NAMI. The company transferred its Moscow plant to the Moscow government. Rostec retained the remaining AvtoVAZ shares. Renault has a six-year buyback option, but it cannot acquire the plant.

In February, AvtoVAZ CEO Maxim Sokolov stated that the company does not expect to resume cooperation with Renault. He stated that if the French company wishes to return to cooperation, it needs to "assess the volume of investments made by both the state and the company itself over the past period." He estimated these expenses at approximately 112.5 billion rubles.

In early June, radio station Franceinfo reported that Renault was planning to establish drone production in Ukraine. The company itself stated that no final decision had been made. The French Ministry of Defense stated that the major automaker would launch drone production, but did not specify which company.

In the middle of the same month, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov told RBC in an interview that Russian authorities see Renault's unfriendly actions and will take this into account when considering the French company's possible return to the Russian market.
