Swiss government refuses to stop broadcasting RT and Sputnik

Switzerland will not join the European Union and suspend the broadcast of RT and Sputnik. The decision is published on the website of the Federal Council.

Berne believes that although the Russian authorities use these media for propaganda, it is more effective to refute "harmful statements" with facts, rather than prevent them from spreading.

“We salute countries where there is still room for media freedom. Unfortunately, the Swiss statement is more of a declarative nature, since by decision of the EU, broadcast and digital platforms were deprived of the technical ability to broadcast RT in dozens of European countries, including Switzerland, ”Anna Belkina, deputy chief editor of RT, told RBC.

Against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, many countries of the world, especially the European Union, decided to suspend the broadcasting of Russian state television channels, radio and other publications. GOOGLE has blocked all YouTube channels related to RT and Sputnik in Europe. The HEAD of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called RT a "Kremlin media machine" that spreads toxic information. The Kremlin and the Russian Foreign Ministry called Western restrictions censorship.
