Pork consumption by Russians in 2020 reached 27 kg per person, which was the highest result in the history of modern Russia. This is stated in the report available to RBC, prepared by the Center for Industry Expertise of the Russian Agricultural Bank. According to estimates, last year pork consumption reached 4.08 million tons, which is 4% more than in 2019. In that year, consumption per person averaged 26.6 kg, in 2018 - 25.5 kg.
The increased consumption of pork is also confirmed by the data of the Rusagro group, the third largest producer of this type of MEAT. The company's annual report gives an even slightly higher figure - an average of 28 kg per person. Yury Kovalev, general DIRECTOR of the National Union of Pig Breeders, also agrees with the assessment of Rosselkhozbank analysts. According to him, pork was the only category of meat where consumption increased in 2020.
