The US Embassy announced concessions from the Russian authorities

The US embassy said that the Russian government intends to postpone imposing severe restrictions on the hiring of personnel for the diplomatic mission in Moscow for the time being.

The Russian authorities have notified the US Embassy in Moscow of their intention to delay the entry into force of the hiring ban. This is stated in a message published on the website of the American diplomatic mission.

“The Russian government has informed the US embassy in Moscow of its intention to postpone the ban on foreign nationals working at the US embassy in Russia. Therefore, until July 16, the US Embassy in Moscow will temporarily resume regular services for US citizens, including passport services, consular foreign birth reports, and limited notary services," the embassy said.

On April 23, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree that limits the hiring of employees in diplomatic missions of countries unfriendly to Russia. The decree ordered to limit the conclusion of labor contracts between "individuals located on the territory of the Russian Federation" and diplomatic missions of countries that commit unfriendly actions against Russia or its citizens.

The list of unfriendly states, as well as the number of individuals located on the territory of Russia, with whom agreements can be concluded, was instructed to determine the government. After the government determines the number of individuals, diplomatic missions will need to break contracts with "extra" people, that is, with the number of employees that exceeds the limit set by the government.

On April 30, the US Embassy announced a reduction in consular services: from May 12, they are provided only on an emergency basis to US citizens. Also, the embassy will issue limited immigration visas, including for Russians. This will only apply to "life and death" cases, the diplomatic mission said.

US diplomats clarified in April that a ban on hiring foreign nationals would lead to a 75% reduction in the size of the consular department in Moscow.
