The West is trying to force Brazil to join the sanctions against Russia and condemn the country, but such a policy does not bring results. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by the Russian ambassador to Brazil, Alexei Labetsky.

The West, according to the diplomat, is trying to oppose Russia's foreign policy and block the country's interests "on all tracks," and Russian-Brazilian relations are no exception.

“Brazil is motivated to join the sanctions regime, so that they constantly condemn our country. But such a policy does not bring results,” the ambassador said.

He said that after the start of the Russian special operation, Brazil and Russia built a dialogue "taking into account a different geopolitical situation in the global arena" and "new challenges" for relations. Brazil, according to Labetsky, is sympathetic to Russian politics and takes an equidistant position in the context of the Ukrainian crisis.

“Naturally, under the current conditions, the collective West, whether it be the United States or Europe, will try to use all the levers of influence on Brazil, on the entire Brazilian government,” the diplomat said. The Russian side, he said, is aware of this and is ready for the consequences, but expects that Brazil will not join the sanctions.

The ambassador has already said that the West, and Washington in particular, is trying to convince Brazil to impose sanctions against Russia . After the start of the Russian special operation, the country's ex-president Jair Bolsonaro refused to condemn Moscow and said that Brasilia would remain neutral in the conflict. The Brazilian Foreign Ministry condemned the anti-Russian sanctions, calling them "selective" and "unilateral."
