The Russian ambassador in Ankara, Alexey Erkhov, warned of possible difficulties for tourists from Russia to Turkey due to sanctions. He told RIA Novosti about this.
According to Erkhov, the situation with payment transfers from Russia to Turkey remains tense, and the West is deliberately destroying Russian-Turkish trade and economic cooperation.
“In principle, of course, if the entire system of financial settlements loses reliability, then it is quite possible that complications may arise in some specific cases,” Erkhov said.
Those who purchase package tours from large tour operators are at less risk, the ambassador added. “But those who purchase air tickets and book hotel rooms on their own via the Internet will likely be affected in some way by the current difficulties,” Erkhov said.
The ambassador also said that a meeting of the Russian-Turkish working group on tourism security will be held in Antalya the other day, at which it is planned to discuss this issue, among other things.
Erkhov said that the United States and the EU are trying to crush all bilateral ties between Russia and Turkey. Previously, he reported that the Americans are “terrorizing” Turkish businesses working with Russia, and Washington’s pressure contradicts the norms of interstate communication.
At the beginning of the year, Turkish banks began to massively stop processing payments from Russia due to US sanctions. US President Joe Biden's December decree on secondary sanctions for foreign banks that help circumvent restrictive measures against Russia led to negative consequences for Turkish-Russian trade, Reuters reported .
In the summer of 2022, Turkey promised the United States not to allow sanctions against Russia to be circumvented. The Kremlin stated that it is aware of the problems and Moscow is conducting a dialogue with Ankara on this issue. Russia considers the sanctions illegal.
