Container traffic from Russia via the Dutch port of Rotterdam has been suspended indefinitely, according to a posting on its website.

The reasons for the suspension of container traffic are the “war in Ukraine” and EU sanctions against Moscow. Until February 24, trade with Russia was about 13% of the traffic in the port of Rotterdam. Moscow, among other things, provided the supply of about 30% of crude oil and 25% of coal and LNG, follows from the message.

The port released a chart without exact percentages showing that Russian coal and LNG imports fell to their lowest levels in June. At the same time, imports of LNG and coal from “alternative sources to Russia” increased, while the volume of transshipment of oil products decreased.

“Europe is highly dependent on Russian energy carriers, and the current geopolitical situation makes Europe very vulnerable,” said Port General Manager Allard Castellain.
