Poland at the summit in Brussels will propose to introduce a tax on Russian energy, Anna Moskva, Minister of Climate and Environment, told Polski Radio.
“I will present this proposal in detail. This will be a special fee, a tax, the amount of which depends on the degree of dependence on Russian raw materials,” she said. According to the minister, such a step will help reduce the dependence of the EU countries on Russia.
As proposed by Warsaw, the tax will cover coal, gas, oil and other types of energy. it will be modeled after the European Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), which should contribute to the decarbonization of the European economy, Moscow added.
An extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers will be held in Brussels on 3 May. Politicians will discuss a new package of sanctions against Russia and assistance to Ukraine in the field of energy security.
Poland will help the EU countries to abandon energy from Russia Politics
Since the Russian authorities recognized the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics and launched a military operation in Ukraine, the EU countries, the usa , the UK, CANADA, Japan and other states have imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia. The measures affected, among other things, the banking sector, export-import restrictions, individual politicians, officials and businessmen. The EU introduced the fifth package of restrictions on April 8. It includes a complete embargo on Russian coal imports.
Now the European Union is preparing the sixth package of sanctions; according to media outlets including BLOOMBERG, Politico, NBC, The New York Times and others, it includes a "definite ban" on Russian oil imports and the exclusion of several Russian banks from SWIFT.
