The European Union may introduce new sanctions against Belarus if the influx of illegal migrants across the border of the republic continues. This, according to Polskie Radio 24, was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau.
“If the procedure for attracting migrants, one might say commercial tourists, from different parts of the world continues, then I think not only Poland, but all EU countries will be convinced of the idea of imposing new sanctions on Minsk. This is an attack on the common borders of the EU in a completely organized manner,” he said.
The minister believes that the influx of illegal migrants cannot be seen as a "spontaneous and desperate attempt" of people to "escape from a repressive political regime or get into a better world."
“This is a pure business organized by the Belarusian state, which plays the role of a large travel company that organizes this event, from boarding a plane in different places of the world, to a transfer to the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, indicating where and when this border will be successfully crossed. These are complex, cynical actions,” he said.
