European diplomats said Malta could change its position on the 18th round of sanctions against Russia and the EU would approve it, they told Politico.

"There is now hope that Malta will comply and we can conclude an agreement on Tuesday," the EU diplomat said.

The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, also said on July 15 that the EU is “very, very close” to adopting the 18th package of sanctions, reportsREUTERS : "I hope we will do it [agree on sanctions] today," the politician said.

Politico reported earlier that Malta has become a new obstacle to agreeing on the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia. At the same time, Slovakia, which had long blocked the sanctions , expressed its readiness to support them if the conditions for Russian gas were relaxed.
