Politico learned about the military sanctions agreed in the EU against Belarus

The EU countries have previously agreed on sanctions against Belarus in the military sphere, writes Politico. According to his sources among European diplomats, the restrictions will affect military equipment, including aircraft parts.

The positions on the sanctions list will be similar to those that appear in the sanctions against Russia in order to prevent the entry of spare parts for military equipment from Belarus to Russia, the publication clarifies.

The EU first imposed sectoral sanctions against Belarus in 2021 in response to “growing human rights violations, brutal repression against civil society, the democratic opposition and journalists, as well as the forced landing of a Ryanair plane in MINSK on May 23, followed by the detention of journalist Roman Protasevich and Sofia Sapieha ". The restrictions affected the import of oil products and potash fertilizers.

After the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine , Brussels tightened sanctions against Belarus so that it would not help Russia bypass the restrictions imposed on it. Personal sanctions were imposed against Belarusian officials for supporting "Russian aggression against Ukraine."

In March, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell threatened Minsk with sanctions in response to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in the republic, which was announced by President Vladimir Putin . After an attempted rebellion by PMC Wagner and the subsequent agreement on the departure of the company’s fighters and its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin to Belarus, the republic reported that representatives of PMCs would be involved in the training of the Belarusian armed forces.
