Russian billionaire and owner of Safmar, Mikhail Gutseriev, considers it unacceptable to silently agree with unfair accusations from the European Union, which imposed sanctions against him in connection with the situation in Belarus. This was reported to RBC in the press service of Gutseriev.
They confirmed to RBC that he had filed a lawsuit with the European COURT of Justice. Three reasons are cited in the justification of the claim: firstly, the EU Council erred in including the billionaire on the sanctions list, secondly, the council violated the complainant's rights to privacy and freedom to conduct business, and thirdly, the interpretation of the criteria for listing the sanctions as implying any form of support or benefit is illegal.
“Gutseriev hopes for a fair trial. A team of English and European lawyers is actively engaged in challenging the sanctions. In any case, M.S. Gutseriev considers it unacceptable to silently agree with unfair accusations from the European Union,” the press service said.
Gutseriev filed a lawsuit against the Council of the European Union in the EU court due to sanctions Politics
Gutseriev was included in the sanctions list on June 21. Sanctions were imposed against him, among other things, in connection with the forced landing of a Ryanair aircraft in MINSK, on which Roman Protasevich, the former editor-in-chief of the opposition Nexta TELEGRAM channel, was flying. The EU Council said that Gutseriev is a "long-time friend" of Belarusian President ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO and, thanks to this, has influence in the political elite of the republic.
