Peskov responded to EU plans to ban LNG supplies with a phrase about rose-colored glasses

The Kremlin does not wear rose-colored glasses and understands that the West will continue to impose sanctions even to its own detriment, Peskov said , speaking about the EU plans to ban LNG supplies. He added that Moscow will try to minimize the consequences of these decisions

The Kremlin understands that Western countries will continue to impose sanctions against RUSSIA, despite the negative effect for themselves; Moscow will try to minimize the consequences of such decisions, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters.

This is how he commented on the statement by Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström that the EU countries plan to include a ban on the supply of Russian liquefied gas (LNG) in the 14th package of sanctions.

“No one here wears rose-colored glasses. We understand that sanctions exercises will continue. The areas that our opponents will try to hit are clear. <...> it is obvious that, gritting their teeth, they are ready to experience a negative effect on themselves. We will see what decisions will be made,” Peskov said ( quoted by Interfax).

Billström, before the meeting of the heads of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense of the EU member states on April 22, said that the European Union is going to include in the 14th package of sanctions against Russia a ban on LNG supplies, as well as measures to curb the “shadow fleet”, which allows them to bypass the “price ceiling.” onoil and petroleum products.

The EU imposed an embargo on the import of Russian oil and petroleum products; pipeline gas and LNG were not affected by the ban, but supplies decreased significantly after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine and the explosion of the Nord Stream pipeline.

European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, after the implementation of the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions, explained that the embargo on gas supplies was not included in it, since there is no agreement among EU countries on this issue.

The next package of European sanctions may be adopted in the spring, but its coordination is fraught with difficulties, said Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis. He admitted that it could include measures against circumvention of sanctions.
