The United States is ready to consider the possibility of easing anti-Russian sanctions in the event that Moscow withdraws troops from the territory of Ukraine, said US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, follows from the broadcast of her speech in the Senate.

“In the context of the Russian decision to negotiate seriously, withdraw its forces from Ukraine and return the territory, I would certainly be in support and I think [US Secretary of State Anthony] Blinken would also be in support,” she said about the possibility of canceling some sanctions against Russia.

The question of easing sanctions was asked by Republican Senator Paul Rand. He asked if it was possible to lift restrictions on some of the deputies of the Russian State Duma in exchange for the lifting of sanctions on some members of Congress. Rand recalled that Nuland was able to come to Moscow in 2021 after the lifting of sanctions from her in exchange for the fact that some Russian citizens were excluded from the US black list.

After Nuland's response, the senator countered that Moscow would not agree to end hostilities in exchange for the lifting of sanctions on several individuals. Blinken's deputy, in turn, recalled that all members of the Russian parliament, against whom sanctions have been imposed, support the special operation and the annexation of new territories to Russia.
