New restrictions on the sale of apartments for foreigners. How it works

From the beginning of March, foreigners from "unfriendly" countries must obtain permits for real estate transactions. Rosreestr advises Russians with dual citizenship to receive them as well.

From March 2, new rules came into force in RUSSIA for real estate transactions involving foreigners from certain countries, including the US and the EU. According to the presidential decree, these are additional temporary economic measures "to ensure financial stability." But the document does not indicate for how long they were introduced.

RBC figured out who the new rules affect and how to make real estate transactions now.

Who is affected by the new rules

The new rules affect Russian residents (primarily Russians) if they buy or sell real estate from people or companies associated with foreign countries "committing hostile acts" against Russia (which usually means Western sanctions ). When registering a transaction with Rosreestr, citizens of “unfriendly countries” need to obtain permission for the transaction from the government commission for monitoring foreign investment in Russia. Previously, this commission considered only investments in strategic enterprises.
