New Zealand imposed sanctions against representatives of the Russian media, including the general DIRECTOR of Channel One, Konstantin Ernst, as well as against the HEAD of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev. This is stated in a statement by New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanai Mahuta.

“The sanctions included the Minister of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media [Maksut Shadayev], the CEO of Channel One [Konstantin Ernst] and key members of the Russian media, including [news agency] InfoRos, [English-language news outlet] SouthFront and [electronic publication] “Strategic Culture Foundation,” Makhuta announced.

She explained that those individuals who “have a direct influence on public opinion” about the Russian operation in Ukraine and “contribute to the mist of disinformation” fell under the sanctions.

New Zealand has repeatedly tightened sanctions against RUSSIA since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. At the end of October, 14 Russians fell under its restrictions, including the heads and shareholders of companies that develop and manufacture rockets and firearms, as well as “members of neo-Nazi paramilitary groups” associated with the Wagner PMC. Sanctions were also imposed against the news agencies InfoRos and News Front.

The Russian Foreign Ministry, speaking of New Zealand's sanctions, accused the country of "obediently following the course of the collective West." In the spring, the agency introduced retaliatory restrictive measures against the New Zealand leadership.
