The Moldovan parliament voted to introduce a state of emergency in the country due to the energy crisis, reports Deschide.md. It will be valid for 30 days - from October 22 to November 20.

This decision was supported by 55 MPs, five more voted against, and 15 MPs abstained from voting, NewsMaker.md reports.

The Commission for Emergency Situations will have the right to take emergency measures, including:

establishment of a special accelerated regime for the purchase of natural gas, funds for this will be allocated from the state budget; introduction, if necessary, of a regime of rational consumption of gas and other energy resources; making decisions that allow suppliers to transport and distribute natural gas throughout the country; coordinate the activities of the media in relation to informing the public about the causes and extent of the emergency and the measures taken.

The parliamentarians also adopted an amendment stating that the state of emergency will not interfere with the local elections, which are to be held on November 21.
