The response of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union ( EAEU ) to Western sanctions may be to expand integration, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel. A fragment of the conversation was published on the government’s TELEGRAM channel.

Mishustin recalled the words of President Vladimir Putin at the EAEU meeting on May 8, who called the unification of the union countries effective against the backdrop of growing sanctions pressure. According to the chairman of the Russian government, the West is trying to restrain the development of states in the global South with sanctions.

“I’ll be honest, such trends cannot be overcome alone. What can we oppose to them? One of the main answers is expanding integration, jointly protecting the interests of our states, cooperation to ensure technological and financial independence,” the prime minister suggested.

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan and RUSSIA . This organization has existed since 2015.

On May 8, Putin at a meeting of the EAEU noted that the union had demonstrated resilience in the face of new challenges, including sanctions from the West. According to the HEAD of state, joint decisions to protect investments, support business and guarantee the rights of entrepreneurs helped to adapt to changes.

At the end of December 2023, the president noted stable economic growth in all EAEU member countries. According to the Eurasian Economic Commission, over the year industrial production in the countries of the association grew by an average of 3.7%, and GDP by 3.8%.
